Guidelines for Use of Car Barn 100-L - 1ST FLOOR CENTRAL LOBBY (OPEN RECEPTION SPACE)
Reserving
The Car Barn 100-L- 1st Floor Central Lobby (Open Reception Space) is a tiled, central lobby sunken space located adjacent to CB-140 near the M Street elevator and M Street entrance to the Car Barn. It is available for use by University organizations, faculty and staff for small (up to 49 people). A Georgetown University faculty or staff member must make the reservation for a student organization and the faculty or staff person making the reservation must be present at the event to ensure that all the policies for use are followed. The faculty / staff person is the responsible person for that event.
There is no calendar reservation for the Car Barn 1st Floor Central Lobby Open Reception Space (yet!). To reserve this room, see the instructions at the bottom of this page.
Hours for Use
The Car Barn - 1st Floor Central Lobby Open Reception Space is available for use from 7:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday only (and is not available late evenings, weekends, or University holidays), on a first-come, reserved basis.
Group Size and Seating
The Car Barn - 1st Floor Central Lobby Open Reception Space is intended as an open area for receptions and other standing events with minimal food or beverage service requirements. No music, amplification, or loud AV presentations are allowed due to the proximity of administrative offices and student study lounges. There are several work tables and some seating in the Central Lobby. These can be moved around slightly as long as they are returned to their original positions and cleaned up after the event.
Conference Room Amenities
There are not many amenities in this area -- it is primarily a standing gathering place for short events and receptions. The limited amenities include:
Strong University wi-fi signal
Several wired LAN ports.
Several 4-6 person work tables and chairs.
Several high cafe-style tables and high stools.
Several soft seating couches.
The area is ADA accessible from the 1st Floor of the Car Barn (use floor 1R if using the M Street elevator). A ramp leads from across from the entrance to CB-140 down into the 1st Floor Central Lobby Open Reception area.
Cleanup Checklist
All users of the Car Barn - 1st Floor Central Lobby Open Reception Area MUST ensure that the following are done at the conclusion of their meeting:
Place any trash into the receptacles.
Wipe tables with wet wipes / cleaner (you must bring this) to remove any food, spills, grease, or other substances.
Return tables and chairs to the positions they were when you arrived.
Remove any signage from your event.
Report any problems with the room to Rick Pike (piker@georgetown.edu).
Failure to cleanup or re-arrange the room after use will result in loss of future privileges.

TO RESERVE the Car Barn - 1st Floor Central Lobby Open Reception Space: There is not a publicly visible calendar for this area (yet!). Send an email to Rick Pike (piker@georgetown.edu) and let him know the date and times of your event, and your approximate number of attendees. Rick and/or the Graduate Dean Office staff will then review and accept your invitation if we can approve the event reservation (if not, you will be contacted to reschedule). If approved, they will enter the event into the Car Barn - 1st Floor Central Lobby Open Reception Area calendar with your meeting title and name, and they will invite you to the meeting so that you can see the reservation in your personal GU Calendar. If you decide you no longer need to use the room, or if you need to reschedule it, please contact Rick Pike (piker@georgetown.edu) to change the reservation and make the original time/date available to others.
Please make sure that your users keep the room clean, dispose of trash properly, and re-arrange the chairs when finished — this will keep you in good standing for future reservations, and have it available for the next users.
